A place, the ground emerged out of the Trace project. Shift-lab members exchanged printing matrices used to produce their Trace components and challenged each other to make a one of a kind book. A polymer plate from Macy Chadwick that traced lines of cracked mud on a New Mexico trail yielded a new series of maps.

Shift-lab is a collective of five artists who expand their studio practices to collaborate on artist books and multiples. Shift-lab is Katie Baldwin (Huntsville, AL); Denise Bookwalter (Tallahassee, FL); Sarah Bryant (Tuscaloosa, AL); Macy Chadwick (Petaluma, CA); and Tricia Treacy (Lebanon, NH). These women work from across the US to expand dialogue through exhibitions and projects investigating narrative, communication, and the book. Shift-lab continues to study the shift in contemporary perspectives relating to studio practice, collaboration, and both digital & analog experiences.
